I've been watching the presidential candidate run up for a while now, and it seems to have thrown up some very interesting questions. Is the US ready for a female resident? No! Are they ready for a the first black president? errrrrmmmmm.....My gut tells me no but its just so out there right now. My problem is that the Democrats served up a very interesting dish, a female candidate and a black candidate, both of whose appointment as the 44th Commander in Chief would make history. It's an unprecedented move in US politics and ultimately its a gamble that just might pay off.

Here is the thing Barack Hussein Obama is a bit of an enigma to me. He has a muslim name with a surname that rolls off your tongue (kind like Mufasa in the Lion King, I can just imagine the Hyenas saying Obammaaa, say it again, say it again, Ohhhhbaaahhhmaaaaahh), nevertheless I digress.

He is the next big O after Oprah but his presence in the Presidential race is going to provide a pretty good perspective on how racist America really is, it puts voters in a serious dilemma really, if we don't vote for Obama, we would be viewed as racist and if we do would the world suspect that we were sympathetic and how would that bear on Obama as a president?, you can be sure that if he is not elected President these types of discussions will be taking place, if not already. The biggest entertainer is black, the richest sportsman is black, the best paid musicians are black and now a black president? Can white America stomach this?

The thing for me is that he is an extremely well educated, articulate man who seems to say all the right things, but sometimes he sounds tooo eloquent and his stance on war is actually very frightening considering both democrat candidates have indicated that they were willing to use Nuclear force if Israel were attacked. He has taken an extremely hardline against Iran and hasn't really spoken out against the war in Iraq and Afghanistan unless it is what the people wanted to hear. My bet is McCain will be the next president (republicans always seem to have their way) but you never know with the romance of politics....now there is a curious juxtaposition of words if ever there was one.

By the way, I'm druidpromo and I have laid claim to the wooden spoon award on this blog, primarily because I like stirring the pot every now and then......and for whacking SS over his head when ever he stands out of line....

I by NO means claim to be an expert about American politics, so I'm merely speaking as someone who experienced, firsthand, Clinton's final term (aka The Prosperous Years), and one term and one year under the Bush presidency (and we use the latter word loosely). And I hope with my ENTIRE heart and soul that Barack and the Democrats win this next election.

Thing is, brainless Bush is going to leave SUCH a mess behind that, should Barack win, he will spend at least the first half of his presidency doing damage control and cleaning it up. In fact, I've recently read an Op-Ed piece (unfortunately I can't remember where...) in which political analysts predict that it will take at LEAST a century (a CENTURY!) to undo Bush's muck-up. And if McCain wins... well, since he is just going to continue stirring up the chaos created by Bush, it will leave that country reeling for even longer! And that's a frightening thought.

I agree with you about the US's obvious stance of favouritism regarding Israel. When one appoints oneself as a mediator, one is supposed to NOT pick sides, right? But we all know that the US is staunchly pro-Israel, because a large amount of Jewish Americans are among the wealthiest people in the States. And therefore politicians on all sides will forever try to please them for those precious campaign donations.

But yeah... Go Barack!!! He definitely has the intellect for the job.

Thanks for commenting Red I think the whole world is rooting for Obama right now, I'm still on the fence about him though.

I also think he is the right black man in the right place at the right time. Jesse Jackson would have never stood a chance! But like you said his stance with regards to Israel is a very dubious one and it gives me chills when one single human being is able to make mention of a weapon that will literally destroy so many lives.....without flinching...

I read the same thing about the USA taking at least a century to reverse the damage, but you have to realise the damage was already done form 1953 with Truman through to Nixon to Reagan to Bush Snr to Bush Jnr, in that time you had Panama, Vietnam, the Shah of Iran, the cold war, and then the middle east conflict, one country is always synonymous with these things and its the USA.

Maybe it will take a century and as much as I think Bush isnt a capable President I dont think he is the sole president responsible for what America has become today. For me the prosperous years you talk about was exactly in teh time that companies like Enron were doing their level best to rip off teh world, so I think it was percieved to prosperous it maybe hindsight but in reality they were screwed already..
